The DRV2604YZFR is a flexible haptic driver from Texas Instruments designed to control both eccentric rotating mass (ERM) and linear resonant actuator (LRA) motors. It provides digital haptic control through a shared I²C-compatible bus while reducing the need for the host processor to generate dedicated PWM motor-drive signals.
The device integrates RAM for waveform storage and can store more than 100 customized waveforms. These waveforms can be played through the I²C interface or activated using the hardware trigger input. The real-time playback mode also allows the host processor to send waveforms directly through I²C.
The DRV2604 includes a Smart-Loop architecture with automatic overdrive and braking for ERM and LRA actuators, automatic LRA resonance tracking, actuator diagnostics and automatic level calibration. This feedback-based control helps provide consistent motor performance and simplified waveform control.
The device uses a trinary-modulated output stage for efficient actuator drive and supports optional PWM, analog and hardware trigger control modes. With a 2.5 V to 5.5 V supply range, 1.8-V-compatible digital inputs and a compact 9-ball DSBGA package, the DRV2604 is well suited to portable and touch-enabled products.
