The TCA9517ADGKR is a two-channel bidirectional I²C and SMBus buffer/repeater with integrated voltage-level translation from Texas Instruments. It is designed to connect I²C bus segments operating at different logic voltages while maintaining bidirectional communication between the two sides.
The A-side supports supply voltages from 0.9 V to 5.5 V, while the B-side supports 2.7 V to 5.5 V. This allows the device to translate signals between low-voltage processors or controllers and higher-voltage I²C peripheral devices without requiring separate direction-control logic.
The TCA9517A supports standard-mode and Fast-mode I²C operation up to 400 kHz. It buffers both SDA and SCL signals and can be used to connect I²C bus segments with a combined capacitance of up to 400 pF per side, helping extend bus connectivity while maintaining reliable communication.
The device includes an active-high enable input. When EN is low, the I²C pins are placed in a high-impedance state. The I²C and enable inputs are also 5.5-V tolerant, supporting mixed-mode signaling in systems with different logic supply voltages.
Powered-off high-impedance behavior allows the I²C pins to remain isolated when one or both supply rails are removed. This makes the TCA9517ADGKR useful in systems that require hot insertion, power sequencing or independent power domains.
